Parker wins Gold in Belgrade 06 May 2012

At the 50th Belgrade annual boxing tournament  sixty nine  boxers from   fourteen countries competed for gold silver and bronze placings . Joseph Parker in the superheavyweight division  defeated 2012 London Olympic  berth winner  Johan Linde af Australia, to claim the gold  He had previously beaten  Erick Pfeifer of Germany  on points to secure a place in the finals

New Zealand sent five  boxers to this tournament and  recorded five  wins from nine bouts Sam Rapira recorded two wins over French and Hungarian opponents but lost narrowly in the semi finals  to the German in the light heavy weight  gaining a bronze  .

David light recorded  a win at the quarter finals stage over his Scottish opponent but losing 15-10 to a class russian in the heavyweight at the semifinals  to earn the bronze medal , while Bowen Morgan and Joe Blackbourn were beaten in the preliminaries .

Boxing New Zealand chairman Dr John McKay says" this is New Zealand s best result in ten years from teams travelling to european international events   the NZ team finished fourth out of fourteen  with  competition of a great  standard "
