Day Nine – 6 August

Super Heavyweight                   Uila Mau’u lost to Delicious Orie (England) 5-0

Big-hitting Uila Mau’u lost his superheavyweight boxing semi-final, but still guaranteed himself a bronze medal. Mau’u was comprehensively beaten by the aptly-named English boxer Delicious Orie, who certainly revealed a tasty range of skills. Orie was wary of the New Zealander’s power after the previous fight, in which Mau’u knocked out his opponent with one well-struck right. But through speed of hand and foot, the Englishman stayed out of trouble and picked off Mau’u almost at will.  – New Zealand Olympic Committee

Day Seven – 4 August

Super Heavyweight                   Uila Mau’u defeated Leran Regis (LCA) KO

Uila Mau’u lifted the New Zealand boxing camp when he knocked out Leran Regis of St Lucia in the first round of their super-heavyweight quarter-final. The result guarantees Mau’u of a medal. It’s just a matter of what colour. Mau’u, who narrowly missed selection for the Tokyo Olympics, stalked Regis until after 2min 34s he landed the knockout blow. The sensational victory turned around a day at the boxing that wasn’t going so well for New Zealand.

Light Middleweight                   Wendell Stanley lost to Tiago Osorio Muxanga (Mozambique) 3-0

Earlier men’s light-middleweight Wendell Stanley lost a knife-edge bout against Mozambique’s Tiago Muxanga. Stanley won the first round handily, but took a bit of a beating in the second. He came back well in the third, but couldn’t quite sway the judges.

Women’s 60kg                            Troy Garton lost to Jasmine Jasmine (India) 4-1

In the 60kg women’s division, Troy Garton went down after a close battle with Jaismine Jaismine of India in their quarter-final bout. The Indian was clearly superior in the first round, but Garton fought back well and the next two rounds were hotly disputed. In the end the judges ruled 4-1 in favour of Jaismine. – New Zealand Olympic Committee

Day Six – 3 August

Featherweight                              Alex Mukuka lost to Joseph Commey (Ghana) 5-0

New Zealand featherweight boxer Alex Mukuka found himself up against a tough and calm customer in Ghanaian in Joseph Commey. Though the 26-year-old New Zealander never stopped pressing forward looking to land a big punch, Commey was able to pick him off and build up points. Over the final stages of the third round Mukuka finally began to dent the Commey defence, but it was too late to sway the judges – New Zealand Olympic Committee.

Day Five – 2 August

Light Middleweight                   Wendell Stanley defeated Thabiso Selby Dlamini (Swaziland) RSC

Wendell Stanley made short work of his first opponent in the men’s light-middleweight boxing competition. Stanley, looking sharp and strong, got on top in the first round against the Swaziland boxer Thabiso Dlamini and won the fight when the referee stopped the contest after Thabiso was put on the canvas in the second round. Stanley, from Half Moon Bay in Auckland, now moves into the quarter-finals - New Zealand Olympic Committee.

Women’s Featherweight           Erin Walsh lost to Elizabeth Oshoba (Nigeria) 5-0

Day Four – 1 August

Featherweight                           Alex Mukuka defeated George Molwantwa (Botswana) 3-2

Alex Mukuka provided New Zealand with its first boxing win of the Games with a narrow points victory over George Molwantwa (BOTS) in their featherweight contest. The bout was extremely hard-fought and close, with every round was scored 29-28 on the judges’ cards but Mukuka took the win with a 3-2 split decision. The Zambian-born, Matamata-based boxer drew energy from the very vocal crowd – New Zealand Olympic Committee.

Day Three – 31 July

Middleweight                            Emile Richardson lost to Desmond Cort Amsterdam (Guyana) 3-2

Emile Richardson went desperately close to winning his opening bout of the men’s middleweight boxing competition. Richardson, a 25-year-old from Bulls, was eventually outpointed on a split decision by Des Amsterdam of Guyana. The final judges’ score was 3-2 and an analysis shows that in all three rounds the judges were split 3-2. Both boxers handed out some punishment and by the end of the contest it was virtually a flip of the coin decision - New Zealand Olympic Committee

Women’s 70kg                            Ariane Nicholson lost to Lovina Borgohain (India) 5-0

Light Heavyweight                    Onyx Lye lost to Taylor Bevan (Wales) KO
