The office and national executive of Boxing New Zealand wishes to congratulate our Commonwealth Games boxing team for it's fantastic performance at the Gold Coast in Queensland  last week.

Five medals in total equals our best ever tally and that in itself is a great achievement.

But special mention must be made of David Nyika who won back to back gold medals following his success at Glasgow, Scotland, in 2014. This was truly a superb effort -- well done David.

Bronze medals also went to Patrick Mailata, Tasmyn Benny, Alexis Pritchard and Troy Garton.

Troy's bronze was truly inspirational considering she was carrying such a severe injury.

Such great results should help boxing to secure further funding for the next  four years.

But thanks must go to the whole team as those who did not make it to the podium still competed with passion and were proud New Zealand representatives.

To the whole team thanks and again our hearty congratulations for a fabulous result.
