JEROME PAMPELLONE RE-STAMPS HIS CREDENTIALS AT THE BOXING NEW ZEALAND NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Jerome Pampellone re-stamped his credentials as the best performed New Zealand amateur boxer this season, when he retained his Light Heavyweight title and won the prestigious Jameson Belt, at the 114th Boxing New Zealand National Championships held in Hasting 2-5 October 2019.

Fresh off finishing in the top eight at the AIBA 2019 Men’s World Championships held in Russia, the Auckland representative gave a master-class in boxing, defeating a game Trevor Swainson by a unanimous decision on National Finals night.

The third successive Flyweight final between reigning champion Ryan Entese and Ivan Pavich, was another exciting contest, which went right down to the wire again. Entese had won the last two title deciders by way of a paper-thin split majority, however Pavich reversed the result on Saturday evening, getting the result by way of a 3-2 points decision.

The most support on the night was accorded Hawkes Bay’s Shirahn Lee Esmail, who thrilled his army of supporters when he won the Lightweight title, defeating 2017 Bantamweight champion Rendz Remaneses. Lee Esmail was presented with one of the oldest National trophies at prize-giving, in the Parisian Cup, that was the first presented to the winner of the lightweight title in 1933

Wellington/Hutt Valley Middleweight Ryan Scaife won his fourth successive National crown defeating Emile Richardson 5-0.  Fineasi Tuipuloto, Dominic Roe, Nic Grantham and Uila Mau’u, will forever remember the Hastings Nationals after winning their first senior championships title.
